At the end of the 19th century, Neustadt was already known as health resort . The construction of the first diet sanatorium in 1890 laid the foundation for a spa tradition that is still alive today. Other sanatoriums, a spa house and a bathhouse followed later, making the town a sought-after health destination. Even the well-known writer and journalist Hermann Löhns appreciated the special climate and stayed in Neustadt as a spa guest in 1908. A memorial stone still commemorates his stay today.
