About spa tax
What will my contribution be used for? As a "state-approved climatic health resort," the municipality of Harztor invests heavily in maintaining the infrastructure in Neustadt that makes your stay so enjoyable. Your contribution goes directly toward:
- Guest folders with lots of information about your stay
- Discounts at spa card partners such as the Neustadt forest pool
- Maintenance of the spa gardens and green spaces
- Maintenance of Hiking and biking trails in the South Harz Nature Park and signage
- Cleanliness and order in the spa area
- Maintenance of public toilets
- Free or discounted events for guests
- Support and assistance from the Tourist information in Neustadt

Frequently asked questions about the Neustadt spa tax
Do I also have to pay the Neustadt visitor's tax if I am here on business?
In principle, the visitor's tax serves to cover tourism-related expenses. Exceptions may apply to stays that are purely work-related. Please discuss this directly with your host or the tourist information office.
Is the spa card also valid in other locations?
The Neustadt spa card primarily offers discounts in the Harztor municipal area and specifically in the climatic health resort of Neustadt. However, thanks to cooperation agreements in the Harz region, spa cards are often mutually recognized (e.g., for reduced admission to museums in neighboring towns). Please check the notices or ask our team for more information.
Where can I pay the visitor's tax if not online?
If you do not wish to use the online service, you can usually pay the fee directly to your host (hotel, vacation apartment) or, in exceptional cases, at the tourist information office on Stolberger Straße in Neustadt.
Why are there different contributions for children?
To ease the burden on families, the spa tax in Harztor is staggered. Children up to the age of 5 are completely exempt, while children and young people between the ages of 6 and 17 pay a greatly reduced rate.
